PORT HUENEME- (May 13, 2008) – Recently the Kiwanis Club of Port Hueneme hosted their annual “Night at the Races” fund raiser, benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme and the Ray D. Prueter Library at the Port Hueneme Boys & Girls Club. The tournament netted $4,000 to benefit the Clubs.
Kristie Elzinga, President of the Kiwanis of Port Hueneme helped reign in more than 100 attendees to the event who contributed generously to the event’s success.
The funding from this event will help support the programs and services to more than 7,000 youth at the 25 Boys & Girls Club locations throughout Oxnard and Port Hueneme. The Clubs’ mission is to inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
About the Kiwanis Club: The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.
Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!
