The City of Oxnard and Kaiser Permanente announces the 3rd Annual Boys & Girls Club’s Day for Kids on Saturday, September 20th, 2008. The mission of Boys & Girls Club’s Day for Kids is to build stronger relationships between positive adults and kids by educating them on the importance of spending meaningful time together.

They stopped using drugs and alcohol. They improved their test scores and grades. And those with a history of fighting learned the value of walking away. The Oxnard youths saw their lives change in one weekend at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme, where they worked through issues from low self-esteem to family violence.

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme announced a new program called “AMP.” This Aftercare Mentoring Program will pair up a community mentor with a mentee in the juvenile justice facility, with hopes of building a solid relationship after the youth is released.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme will build a new playground in one day at Southwest Park in Oxnard. The Amgen Foundation has provided a $62,500 grant for the project, with $7,500 provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs. Twenty kids actually helped design the project with KaBOOM. It will be the first of two KaBOOM play stations in Ventura County sponsored by the Amgen Foundation.

Volunteers mixed more than nine and a half tons of concrete by hand and assembled more than 4,675 pounds of equipment to build a playground in one day at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme's Martin V. Smith Branch on 5th Street in Oxnard on Saturday.
