Background checks are a legal requirement that ensures member safety, and must be completed prior to volunteer placement. We do not provide court-ordered volunteer hours. To register as a volunteer, please fill out our on-line registration form. Our staff will keep you updated about volunteer trainings and opportunities as they come up. All volunteers must attend a one-hour training; trainings are held monthly, at our Martin V. Smith Branch 1900 West 5th street in Oxnard.

Afterschool Gamesroom and Gym Activities
Billiards - Foosball - Air Hockey - Ping Pong - Board Games - Basketball - Soccer - Hockey - Active Games
Daily between 2:00 and 7:00 adults are needed to teach sportsmanship and skills to youth in our gamesroom and gymnasium. Having additional adults in the games room means that our members are surrounded with positive role models. One-on-one interaction between youth and adults is an essential building block for healthy development of youth.
Teen Nights
Basketball - Computers - Dance - Supervision - Gamesroom
Teen Nights events are for middle school and High School youth in our community. Adults are needed to build relationships with teens and interact with them in this safe, fun, and age-appropriate environment. Volunteers must be outgoing and interested in building relationships with teens.
Education Center & Computers
Homework Assistance - Tutoring - Story Telling - Word Processing - Web Design - Internet Surfing - Tech Support & Supervision - Programming
Today's families are stressed out to the max. It is often difficult for parents to take the time out of their day to help their child with homework. Each day over 100 youth come to the club looking for assistance and attention. Power Hour is a program that rewards youth for their efforts towards their homework. Power hour is held every day after school Adult tutors are needed to meet weekly with youth to help build their skills in a particular area. We always have a waiting list of students in need. Students are matched with tutors according to interests, personalities, and strengths.
Coaching
Flag Football - Basketball - Volleyball - Hockey - Soccer - Martial Arts - Tennis - Bowling - Wrestling - Track - Golf
Coaching takes a special person who cares about youth and who can model teamwork, sportsmanship and the joy of being involved in a positive healthy activity. Coaches volunteer between 2-4 hours per week during a season. Volunteer coaches will attend a training session to learn coaching strategies.
Advisors
Torch Club 12-14 yrs. - Keystone Club 14-18 yrs. - Smart Girls - Smart Moves
The Boys & Girls Club includes citizenship among the many arenas to which we try to expose our members. Youth who understand citizenship will take part in their communities throughout their lives. Volunteer to advise Boys & Girls Club members in one of our many programs that expose youth to good citizenship; teach the skills of democracy, planning events, working in a team, and helping others. Volunteers for the above programs must be over 24, and must make a one-year commitment to the group they facilitate. Time commitment is beyond four hours per month.

Everyone of us has a special passion. Whether it is kites, cooking, model airplanes, or anything else… One-time demonstrations or weekly classes-you choose the format! Don't be shy… your hobby might be just what some child needs to keep them going when the things get tough.
Maintenance
Construction - Painting - Cleaning - Grounds keeping - Landscaping - Van Repair
Our clubs is used by over 200 to 300 youth DAILY and our equipment and facilities get extreme use by active kids. If you have a skill or an interest in this area, your help can save the club dollars better spent on providing activities for youth, and you can help create an environment where members feel comfortable and at-home.
Fundraising
Auction - Community Events - Golf Tournament - Special Events - Board Member - Grant Writing
Volunteers in this arena work on special events and fundraising for the club. Time is flexible and is usually evenings and weekends. There are monthly meetings to coordinate efforts and you control how much time you spend by what you sign up for.
